”After months of being hammered in the global markets, Europe’s outlook is brightening. The single currency of the euro zone has been under pressure and debt costs have spiralled in some countries. But now, The Wall Street Journal notes, “after months of crisis and questions, a number of market indicators have turned positive across the Old World.”

The government bond market, crucial to the debt-burned countries, is easing, and borrowing costs among the stressed nations are falling. The euro is also performing better. Today, European bank shares surged on earnings from the likes of UBS and Deutsche Bank, and on less stringent new bank regulatory rules, while consumer confidence in Germany, for example, rose sharply, according to the latest reading. “
